Fifteen of the top academic teams in Massachusetts competed in Brighton for WGBH's High School Quiz Show last month. This is the second season of the academic game show that tests student knowledge in core subjects and current events.
The Arlington High School team, known as "Spy Ponder", rose through the ranks of the qualifier last year to earn a spot in the televised tournament, where the winners from eastern and western Massachusetts will face off in a statewide championship in June. A producer of the event said it's unique because unlike with student athletics, there are few venues for students to compete on an academic basis and receive media recognition for their accomplishments. The breakdown of questioning was 90% in core subjects like math and literature, and 10% in current events trivia.

There are times when those who live in Massachusetts will want to get away and explore another city or state in the United States. Florida is a very popular spot, and some insider tips can help you save money on cheap holidays to Florida. Whether you are traveling on a family vacation or weekend getaway, Florida offers warm weather and great beaches that can all be enjoyed on a budget. In terms of getting the cheapest flights, you should make sure not to book too early or too late.
Due to some reduced flight schedules, waiting until the last minute is not advised, but tickets purchased too early can also cost more. In general you should purchase no more than four months ahead of your departure. Getting Florida hotels for a low price can seem like a challenge, but the key is to find the hidden discount. Traveling on weekdays will usually get you a better rate, but it's also wise to ask about other specials or promotions that hotels frequently offer to guests. For example, many hotels in Orlando will give reduced rates to government workers, seniors and teachers.

While many locals in Massachusetts like to take their holidays in the nearby area, there are some people who do like to be a bit more daring in their vacations by traveling overseas. In Massachusetts there are dozens of Spanish language groups that gather together on a regular basis, showing the growing interest in Spanish culture in the United States.
Why not take bargain city breaks to Spain yourself, including to the town of Benidorm?
Benidorm holidays provide many options for sightseeing. Located about 45 km north east of Alicante, Spain, the town is well known for its beautiful beaches and nightlife. The church of San Jaime is the most visited site in Benidorm and it attracts tourists from around the world. The Benidorm Aquarium at Calle Horno also makes for an exciting excursion for those who are interested in sea life. There are a variety of theme parks in Benidorm that can provide lots of fun for families, and one of these theme parks is based on the ancient history of the Mediterranean civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Iberia and Rome. The nightlife in Benidorm is known for its various nightclubs and discos, as well as good many cafes, restaurants and bars to choose from. People from all over the world vacation here, and there are bars with unique ethnic themes including English, German, Cuban and, of course, Spanish.
